Jim Skelly: Language and Human Confusion
Wittgenstein famously said that "philosophers are bewitched by language." As all humans philosophize to a greater or lesser extent, are we not all bewitched by language? And, as language is the essential building block of all socially constructed realities, is it not accurate to say that those with the greatest 'voice' and political power often define the realities that others are forced to inhabit? if the least powerful attempt to assert a contrary "reality," are they heard or are they silenced? Is the best strategy then to accept the realities espoused by Popes, Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Pundits? Or does that simply mean that we should not challenge the confusion about our circumstances?
